I run because it is part of who I am. It creates a place where I can test my body and mind.
The athlete most like me is Bart Yasso, because of his approach to running: "Never limit where running can take you." I would like to continue my running with this same attitude.
To me, hunger means the loss of opportunity.
My next challenge will be qualifying for The Boston Marathon.
When I want to quit, my motivation to continue is remembering those who support my running. I also repeat, "Keep your legs turning." It's like counting sheep; eventually I forget I'm saying it and before I know it, I'm done.
The athlete who inspires me most is Shalane Flanagan. In an interview, she said that her coach taught her that what makes you a better runner is what you do when you aren't running.

Marathon Runner Reflects on His Fundraising ExperienceTad Fry summarizes his experience running the Cleveland Marathon for Athletes Against Hunger. |
Local Cleveland Runner Going The Distance To End HungerAfter running 5K, 10K, half-marathon, and 25K distances, Tad Fry wanted to take his running to the next level by participating in his first full marathon. As Tad began his marathon preparation, he needed constant food and water to sustain his physical efforts. As he got further into the training and needed even more fuel, he experienced a renewed appreciation for food and water. While browsing the Internet, Tad came across an Action Against Hunger link and was immediately drawn to our impact on the quest to end global hunger through emergency food aid, food security, and water & sanitation. |
