About Michael Gumbley

Michael Gumbley comes to Action Against Hunger (ACF) as a reformed banker. After having worked on Wall Street and at the Australian Mission to the United Nations for a brief period, Michael set out to pursue a career in the humanitarian field. He worked in Côte d’Ivoire with refugees from Liberia and Sierra Leone, and later traveled to Indonesia to work in Aceh and Nias after the Asian tsunami and subsequent earthquakes. In 2006, he joined the ACF New York headquarters as the Field Financial Manager, managing financial controllers in Tajikistan, Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Sydney, a bachelor’s of science from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and a master’s degree in political science from the Sorbonne in Paris. He speaks fluent French and Indonesian, and conversational Italian, Spanish and Malinké. Michael is from Sydney, Australia.
